Potagarh Fort-Picnic spot & Historical Place

About the Fort

PotaGarh is a Historical Fort built by Britishers in the year 1768 AD. Previously it was the first Collectorate Office of Ganjam Dist. But subsequently because of Drought the Collectorate was shifted to Berhampur in the year 1835 AD. The fort is in ruins stage, but it says regarding the glorious past of Ganjam.
Potagarh is situated in the River Bank of Rushikulya and is surrounded by a Moat. It is alleged that there exists a buried Tunnel inside the Fort. The fort was built in a well planed manner. A huge artificial Drain was built just before the main door, so that enemies can’t reach inside the fort easily. There exists some small buildings inside the fort. 
The Historical Fort is a very good picnic spot and a lover's point. Nearby School Teachers and Students frequently come here for picnic during summer and winter vacations. Peaceful Environment, Flowing river is the main attraction for  picnic lovers.

How to Reach the Place

The place can be approached both by Bus as well as Train.
Ganjam Railway station is the nearest railway station which is 3 Km away from Potagarh. Chatrapur railwy station is about 10 Km away from Potagarh.
One can also reach here by Bus via NH-5.
Dist Headquarter Chatrapur is just 13 Km and State Capital Bhubaneswar is 147 Km away from here.
