Tara Tarini Shakti Pitha is one of the famous Sakti Pitha situated on the top of the Purnagiri (Kumari) Hill on the south bank of river Rushikulya in Ganjam District of Odisha. The Pitha is named after twin Goddess Tara and Tarini, who are worshipped here as sign of Adi Sakti. It is the oldest pilgrimage centre and one among the four major Shakti Pitha of India

Mahuri Kalua Temple is one of the important Visiting cum Picnic spots of the Southern part of Odisha. It is situated near Berhampur of Ganjam Dist. The place is named after the Goddess Mahuri Kalua, the prime deity of King of Mahuri. Presence of Dense forest and Hills makes the place more interesting for visitors.

Silk City Berhampur - Marketing Hub of South Odisha

About Berhampur


Berhampur (Sanskrit Name Brahmapur) is one of the important business hub of Southern Odisha. It is situated in the eastern coastline of Ganjam Dist. near Gopalpur . It is one of the largest city of Odisha after Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. The ancient city Berhampur is known for Silk. Hence, it is nicknamed as ‘Silk City’. The population of Berhampur is about 8 lakhs , which makes it the third Corporation of Odisha.

Important Trading Place

Berhampur is connected to all other places of Odisha by Road and Rail. So, it is one of the important trading centre of Southern Odisha. People from nearby places visit here frequently for shopping. People generally come here to purchase Jewellery, Silk (Patto) Sarees, other wearing apparel, badi, Pampad, Pickles, Automobiles etc. As a business hub, it provides earnings to many.

Potagarh Fort-Picnic spot & Historical Place

About the Fort

PotaGarh is a Historical Fort built by Britishers in the year 1768 AD. Previously it was the first Collectorate Office of Ganjam Dist. But subsequently because of Drought the Collectorate was shifted to Berhampur in the year 1835 AD. The fort is in ruins stage, but it says regarding the glorious past of Ganjam.

MahuriKalua Temple- A Picnic Spot

About the Temple

Mahuri Kalua Temple is one of the important Visiting cum Picnic spots of the Southern part of Odisha. It is situated near Berhampur of Ganjam Dist. The place is named after the Goddess Mahuri Kalua, the prime deity of King of Mahuri. Presence of Dense forest and Hills makes the place more interesting for visitors.
There is an interesting story is associated with this place. The Goddess was established inside a Cave situated at the Hill Top where nobody can reach except the King and his Family. As alleged by the local people, the King of Mahuri was presented with a special sword by the Goddess, that protected him from every danger. But one day the King lost the sword and was defeated by the Britishers. And after wards, the Goddess was worshipped by a Sabara on request of the King. The Sabara established the deity at the feet of the Hill, where everyone can access.

Gopalpur Sea Beach

About Gopalpur On Sea

Gopalpur on sea , a small town of Fishermen was an  important trading point during British reign. The place is famous for the sea beach of Bay of Bengal. The presence of old light house, ruins of old jetty depicts the past maritime glory of Gopalpur. The old jetties were renovated by Govt. of Odisha in 1970 to revive the past glory. Lack of proper commercial activities, the port could not come into the limelight. At present a new jetty is under construction. And once it is completed, it will become an important port of south Odisha.
